Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), is the student government body at CSU Bakersfield. It offers opportunities for students to get involved on campus through a variety of educational, cultural, and social activities. ASI is comprised of a Board of Directors, with representation from each school, class level, and residence halls – as well as the president and vice president of the board. ASI encourages all students to participate by volunteering on a project, participating in a committee, joining a club, or running for office.
Brief History of ASI
The students of CSU Bakersfield voted to create its own governing body in the spring of 1976. Since then, the organization has evolved, incorporating as a non-profit in 1987. The first student body fees were collected in 1978, and are still collected today to support student clubs and organizations, activities, services, athletics, and the Children’s Center.
ASI has been instrumental in the development of several projects that have enhanced the campus community, including the planning, development, design, and construction of the Student Union, which was completed in 1994. In addition, Runner Park was completed in 2000 and was designed and funded entirely by the ASI for the enjoyment of students, past, present, and future.
